A new class of college music students will be forced to abandon their favorite albums in favor of a playlist of more contemporary music and dance music.
The goal: to improve their listening habits and improve their academic performance.
The first semester of the program, dubbed Music, Academics and Innovation, began in July.
The program will focus on music education and instruction.
In addition to the new curriculum, the College of Music will begin a new program in the fall.
In the meantime, music will remain a central part of the curriculum for students from middle and high school through college.
Students can opt out of music classes if they wish.
The College of Arts and Sciences is also developing a new music program.
The new program, which is designed to help students in a wide range of disciplines with music studies, is part of its College of Technology portfolio.
A few months ago, the School of Art, Design, and the Performing Arts launched a new graduate program that aims to train new artists.
